Developing  our leadership skills involves developing our self-confidence, our self-knowledge and the ability to relate to others from the basis of mutual interest and shared responsibility in order to build trust. Businesses are made primarily with people and because of trust. For this, besides the technical knowledge of the business itself, we need to be consistent, able to communicate, negotiate and generate empathy in others. Those are leadership skills. Only then we will make people want to work with us and give the best of themselves when trying to attain a shared goal.

Understanding this helps us to design people policies to enable people to develop themselves in our companies. It is well studied that satisfied employees become loyal employees:  A 5% increase in employee retention can yield between 25% & almost 100% increase in profits. That is valid for any type of business we are conducting, either a start-up business, a family business, a multinational corporation, or even an NGO.

 This was over a year ago. Now, it turns out that the idea has led to amazing experiences, full of rich possibilities. In the kitchen of Espai Boisa and by the C + C + S Consulting’s team coaching, there have been countless “cooks and chefs”, coming from all kinds of businesses (food industry, chemical, pharmaceutical, etc.). Teams and individuals wanting to grow, change, improve relationships and communication skills by means of innovative tools.

Today, teams relationships affect productivity. When there are conflicts, teams diminish their effectiveness. To put it in J.A. Marina’s words, “a learning organization is able to make a group of  people, maybe not just extraordinary people,  to achieve extraordinary goals based on the way they relate to one another”.

 Now, this coaching experience in the cooking ambiance has shown that coaching combined with group- cooking activities promotes building sustainable and nourishing relationships among people, because it helps us realize how to enhance the flavor and essence of each team. Besides, it helps us reflect how to deal with natural and genuine fears to “burn” or to be burned, to “dirt”, or to “cut” or get cut in order to build confidence and common ground and creativity in people. It helps people become more aware of what the best “ingredients” are for teamwork, how to manage “juicy resources” and how to “serve a dish” to impact our clients.

Coaching techniques offer many possibilities for all who dare to take a step towards greater awareness, to understand how human relationships flow and how we can influence them for the better. And his versatility is amazing.

In September 2012, Vela trusted HCCI C + C + S Consulting to manage around 500 job offers that diversity of Chinese enterprises had inserted into the SOC through Vela HCCI.

C + C + S Consulting managed the entire recruitment and selection process, from sorting all cv received, conduct selection interviews in English, both individually and in groups and to issue the respective reports. Vela then was responsible for the coordination with China enterprises.

The experience was very interesting, because China is a very dynamic labor market, and Chinese companies value the know-how and experience that European professionals posses, along with the fluency in English and having basic knowledge of Mandarin. In addition, working  culture and values of the Asian giant are very different from those in Western companies. This project meant a very interesting experience for C + C + S Consulting.

We had a high response rate and in Catalan candidates, and then we found in them a high level of preparation.

Some of the jobs Chinese businesses sought had to do with language teaching at the college level, with research and development, marketing and communication, technology, design, construction and financial sector, among others. Regarding the responsability, there were managerial positions sought aswell as technitian and academic jobs.

Classes were held in English with a blended learning approach, combining case-studies, team-work, open discussions, individual work, training teams and lectures.

With this project, the Executive team wanted to impact on team building and facilitate change among the employees.

It is a fact that the Executive team was really involved in the activity from its very beginning, and that had a positive impact on the team.

This team coaching activity was carried out with Pep Soler’s collaboration at the Espai Boisà in Barcelona. There we could cook in group, and then debrief and reflect on the activity and use the team coaching techniques to bring the best out of Hexacath’s team. So we cooked in group and then learnt a lot of ourselves.
